Board Meeting Highlights - December 15, 2016
J.C. Charyk Hanna School Modernization
The Hanna Primary School staff are busy preparing for the move to J.C. Charyk Hanna School. The Hanna Primary School staff and the grade 5 & 6 teachers of J.C. Charyk Hanna School have been given January 9, 2017 for classroom set-up and preparation (there will be no school for the K-6 students on Monday, January 9). Students from K-6 will return to school on Tuesday, January 10 at J.C. Charyk Hanna School, while students in grades 7-12 will be returning on January 9, 2017.
Hanna Primary School Building Future
The Board defeated a motion that would have the initiative as presented by Sandra Beaudoin that the Hanna Primary School be repurposed as part of a bigger project that would enhance the Hanna Roundhouse Society. The Board decided to keep the Hanna Primary School within the scope of the project as identified by Alberta Infrastructure, which will call for the demolition and removal of the building upon completion of the J.C. Charyk modernization. The Board of Trustees would like to acknowledge Mrs. Beaudoin for her efforts to repurpose the building.
Financing Support for J.C. Charyk Hanna School Playground
Hanna Community School Enhancement Society (HCSES) representatives Kim Neill and Darren Jones presented to the Board of Trustees asking for financial assistance for the new playground at J.C. Charyk Hanna School. A request was made where the Board would cover the cost required to purchase the equipment and that an agreement for the remaining financing be returned to the Board once the society has raised the required funds. The society has been raising funds for the playground since their incorporation in January 2015, however, do not have the full amount to date that is required to order the playground materials. The Board passed a motion that the financing for the difference between the final cost of the J.C. Charyk playground and the amount available from HCSES fundraising be provided. HCSES thanked the Board for their support so that the playground can be purchased and installed for the spring of 2017.
