Board Meeting Highlights - January 19, 2017
J.C. Charyk Hanna School Modernization
During the week of January 2-6, the PLRD maintenance department, the superintendent, deputy superintendent, J.C. Charyk Hanna School principal, school staff and extra student helpers moved the materials from the Hanna Primary School to J.C. Charyk Hanna School. The later part of the week was for unpacking and getting J.C. Charyk Hanna School ready for the first day. There was a school tour held for parents of the K-6 student section in the evening on Monday, January 9. Students from K-6 returned to school on Tuesday, January 10 for their first day at J.C. Charyk Hanna School. It was an exciting day having all the students together at the modernized school.
The Board would like to express gratitude to all those involved in helping make the transition happen and especially to all the J.C. Charyk staff for their hard work and for being accommodating during such a lengthy and difficult transition.
2017-2018 Divisional Calendar
The Board approved the 2017-2018 PLRD #25 Division Calendar. Our students’ first day back is Thursday, August 31. The calendar provides family holidays during the weeks of November 13-17 and February 19-23 in addition to our traditional Christmas and Easter breaks. This approved calendar includes 182 instructional days and 194 teacher days, with five Professional Development days and three teacher preparation days. The Board appreciates the feedback and the support that it received from our communities for this calendar.
Kelly Lewis has been working on recruitment for PLRD during the 2016-2017 school year. The Deputy Superintendent and K. Lewis are traveling to career fairs to promote PLRD and encourage new teachers to apply within the division. The ultimate goal is to promote the benefits of teaching in our school division for the purposes of attracting more candidates to apply for future teaching vacancies.
