J.C. Charyk Hanna School Opening Postponed
Due to the weather and road conditions, the opening for the J.C. Charyk Hanna School modernization has been rescheduled until Thursday, September 14, 2017.
Staffing Budget Approval
The Board moved to approve the 2017-2018 staffing as amended within the draft 2017-2018 budget. School staffing will remain at 2016-2017 Board funded levels with the exception of J.C. Charyk Hanna School where reductions will be made in support staffing (library and custodial) as a result of the amalgamation of the two schools. The Board did approve to retain three secretarial support positions for the 2017-2018 year while transition and workload review is conducted. The Board also supported an additional teaching contingency for the superintendent s’ management. The services of a full-time divisional coordinator will be added in the 2017-2018 year to support assessment, ELL and other student focused initiatives.
First Nations, Metis, & Inuit Education Gathering
The First Nations, Metis & Inuit Education gathering hosted by Alberta Education and the College of Alberta School Superintendents was held in Edmonton from April 26-28, 2017. A delegation including the superintendent, deputy superintendent, trustees, a principal and an Elder attended the conference on behalf of our school communities. Prairie Land Regional Division has done a lot of work in preparing resources for both teachers and learners, in addition to providing curricular field trips and presentations on Aboriginal awareness as a result of the new curricular standards as outlined by Alberta Education.
