2025 Edwin Parr Nominee Matt Scholz

Prairie Land’s Board of Trustees is pleased to share their 2025 Nominee for the Edwin Parr Award, first-year teacher Matt Scholz

Prairie Land Public School Division is proud to announce that Mr. Matt Scholz, a first-year teacher at Berry Creek Community School, has been selected as our division’s nominee for the prestigious Edwin Parr Award, presented by the Alberta School Boards Association (ASBA).

The Edwin Parr Award recognizes outstanding first-year teachers from across Alberta who demonstrate excellence in teaching, a commitment to student learning, and a strong connection to their school communities. Each year, school divisions from across the province nominate one exceptional new teacher for this honour.

Matt’s path to teaching is an inspiring one. He began his career as an Educational Assistant at Berry Creek, where his passion for education and rapport with students quickly stood out. Encouraged by his principal, Matt pursued a teaching degree and has since returned to Berry Creek as a full-time teacher. In just his first year, he has made an incredible impact—not only as a music teacher, but also as a coach, and an active contributor to school spirit and student life.

One of the school’s most cherished traditions is the personalized graduation song that Matt writes and performs for the Grade 9 graduates each year—an example of his creativity, deep care for students, and dedication to building lasting memories and meaningful connections.

Prairie Land congratulates Matt on this well-deserved nomination. His story is a testament to the power of mentorship, perseverance, and a genuine love for teaching. We are incredibly proud to have Matt Scholz as part of our teaching team and look forward to all that he will continue to contribute to our division.
