Important Tidbits

For Gr 12s heading off to post secondary school this fall, be sure to familiarize yourself with the process of applying for a student loan through Alberta Student Aid. Applications usually open early June and it is recommended to apply 60 days before classes start. There are great videos to help with the process.

The Alexander Rutherford Scholarship is a non competitive scholarship for students enrolled in full time studies or apprenticeship programs. It is based on combined averages of designated courses throughout high school. You can earn up to $2,500. The scholarship application opens in early August and is submitted through Alberta Student Aid.

Gr 11 students can start the process of preparing to apply to post-secondary now, by going to ApplyAB and setting up your profile to begin the process. If you already have your profile set up then add completed courses. https://www.applyalberta.ca/

The following Prairie Land Awards are available for students in the current graduating class. For more detailed information on all awards offered and the application form, please refer to the Prairie Land website or talk to your Career Rep. Prairie Land Award of Distinction

Presented to a Prairie Land Grade 12 student who graduates from the current school year with the highest average mark in the division based on results in English 30, Social 30, Math 30-1 or Math 30-2 and two of Physics 30, Chemistry 30, Biology 30, Science 30 and Math 31.

Prairie Land Education Award

Presented to a Prairie Land Grade 12 student who clearly demonstrates the intention of enrolling in the first year of the Faculty of Education at an accredited Alberta post-secondary institution. Must provide one letter of reference.

Prairie Land Achievement Award

Presented to up to three Prairie Land Grade 12 students who graduate from the current school year. Applicants must demonstrate leadership qualities and be considered a well rounded student with an acceptable academic standing. Must provide one letter of reference.

In order to be considered for these awards, the applicant must complete the Prairie Land Scholarship and Bursaries application form and submit it to the Prairie Land Board office by July 31, 2023. Please complete all sections of the application form. Be sure to check off the awards you wish to be considered for. Speak to your school Career Rep for more information.
